02-16-2009 Verizon donates $250K for WVU research WVU has received a $250,000 donation from Verizon West Virginia to support scientific research.

The communications leader made the donation as part of the Research Trust Fund (RTF) endowment initiative approved last year by the Legislature. The plan, also known as Bucks for Brains, set aside $35 million for WVU and $15 million for Marshall University, which have five years to raise matching funds. Verizon also contributed $250,000 to Marshall. The gift announcement was made Monday (Feb. 16) in Charleston by Gov. Joe Manchin.
