Director of Development, WVU Alumni Association


The West Virginia University Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization specifically designated to aid, further and support the work and purposes of West Virginia University, is seeking a Director of Development for the WVU Alumni Association.

This position is responsible for assigned development activities for the WVU Alumni Association while also managing a portfolio of Major Gift prospects and donors. The Director will work directly with the Alumni Association’s staff, Board of Directors and the WVU Foundation, to assist with the identification of potential donors, determine possible levels of support and match prospect interest with Alumni Association gifts needs at the Major Gift level.

The Director will plan, schedule and complete frequent travel, including overnight, to cultivate prospects and donors in completion of portfolio management. The majority of travel is in West Virginia and surrounding region, with some national travel.

Additionally, the Director will be engaged in securing sponsorships and philanthropic support for the Association’s signature events like the Marmaduke Dent dinner and the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni dinner as well as special initiatives including Mountaineer Alliance and assisting geographic alumni chapters with establishing and building endowed scholarships.

A Bachelor's degree and six years of experience with fundraising major and planned gifts are required. Experience in a comprehensive university setting and working in a complex unit environment preferred.
