Grant opportunities available through Women of WVU Enrichment Fund

on Tue, 01/19/2016 - 14:00

Proposals are now being taken for the third round of grants through an enrichment fund established by the Women of WVU organization.

The group was established by the WVU Foundation in 2014 to provide women who love the University another way to become involved using educational activities, networking opportunities and philanthropy.

The Women of WVU Enrichment Fund was established by the group’s leadership council to provide support funding for female students and programs affecting women at WVU.  Individual grants of $2,500 and program grants of $5,000 are available. One each is awarded annually.

Individual grants can be used for costs associated with studying abroad, internships and conferences, but are not limited to these items. Program funds can be used for costs associated with focus groups, surveys or conference travel.

Applicants must submit a proposal stating the need and purpose for funding.  Applicants will be notified no later than May 1 on the status of their application. Grants will run from May 1, 2016-April 30, 2017.  Submit application materials electronically to womenofwvu@wvuf.org, or by hard copy to Mary Esposito, Women of WVU Program Coordinator, One Waterfront Place, 7th Floor, P.O. Box 1650, Morgantown, WV, 26507. For more information on how to apply, visit http://wvuf.org/womenofwvu.  Deadline is Feb. 22.

“The Women of WVU Enrichment Fund is a wonderful opportunity for students to enhance their studies with the extra funding,” said Esposito. “Programs also can benefit. Receiving one of the grants could mean attending a conference that students wouldn’t have been able to otherwise, or a program growing to benefit more students on campus.”

Esposito said Women of WVU encompasses a new model of engagement and an understanding of how women’s motivation for giving will influence communication, marketing and fundraising strategies. She noted research supports the theory that gender differences in philanthropy are real, so new avenues will be pursued to connect and engage women as donors.

The Women of WVU Leadership Council includes Carolyn Blaney, honorary chair; Jo Statler, chair; Joyce Butler Allen, Malene Davis, Alison Deem, Pamela Maphis Larrick, Alexis Pugh, Sandra Johnson-Purdy, Belinda Rogers, and Lisa Zuccari.

Membership for Women of WVU is $100.  Dues are 100 percent tax deductible and support initiatives such as the enrichment fund. To join, email womenofwvu@wvuf.org or call 304-284-4016.
