Paid Summer Internship in the Office of Donor Relations


Description:
The Office of Donor Relations is currently seeking a summer intern to assist with writing projects for A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University.  Primarily, the intern will assist the Director of Donor Relations/Campaign Coordinator with drafting content for a campaign report, which is scheduled to be released early August.  Other projects will include electronic communications, campaign marketing and social media.

Tasks will include but not be limited to:

  • Researching topics relating to the Campaign
  • Writing content on relevant topics
  • Compiling information on past and upcoming Campaign activity
  • Sorting data for donor recognition

Qualities: effective time management; attention to detail; creativity
Skills:
internet research; strong writing skills; strong communication skills
Preferred major:
Rising senior or graduate student in the School of Journalism
Schedule
: 38.75 hours per week for a 12 week summer term (negotiable)
Preferred start date:
Monday, May 20th (negotiable)

Director of Development for Eberly College of Arts and Sciences


The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is seeking a Director of Development. The Director will be responsible for generating gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.  In consultation with the Dean of the Eberly College, the incumbent will be responsible for the creation and implementation of a comprehensive development plan to reach the college’s strategic goals and support the university’s ongoing capital campaign.  The incumbent will supervise a staff of development professionals, prepare and administer a development budget, work with the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences administrators, chairs, directors, faculty, and staff, and coordinate efforts with the WVU Foundation to identify and cultivate donors and develop and implement annual giving and communication plans.

A bachelor’s degree is required; however, a Master’s degree is preferred. Five years of experience in development and a history of successful major gift solicitations are required. Demonstrated ability in the following areas is required: excellent interpersonal skills, success in soliciting and obtaining major gifts, working knowledge of planned giving vehicles and methods, excellent oral and written communication skills, and financial planning and management. Director of Development, WVU Health Sciences Center and WVU Healthcare


The West Virginia University Health Sciences Center and WVU Healthcare has a full-time position open for the Director of Development, Leadership Gifts. This position works directly with the Dean, WVU School of Medicine on engagement of high potential gift prospects for support of the School’s priority funding objectives.  The School’s premier fund raising position, the Director will establish and manage relationships with an active portfolio of 100 leadership level gift prospects on behalf of philanthropic support for the WVU School of Medicine.

Specific attention to creating and maintaining appropriate relationships for the purpose of meeting the requirements of gift cycle work, including ongoing identification and qualification of leadership level prospects, cultivation of gift interests targeting priority needs established by School leadership, engaging prospects with the Dean and/or appropriate department chairs, center directors, and other leadership to enrich relationships and increase affinity, solicit specific gifts in keeping with priorities and interests, steward post-gift relationship reporting on accomplishments and progress made possible by gift support, and engage volunteers in the overall process to create peer-to-peer dynamics for gift encouragement.

Portfolio prospects will include individuals, corporations and foundations with heavy emphasis on individuals, and on gift capability at the level of $100k or more.  Quantifiable performance expectations are part of annual performance objectives.

Minimum qualifications include:  

  • Bachelor's degree required,
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills a necessity. 
  • At least five (5) years fund raising experience with a proven track record in major gift fund raising from individual, corporate and foundation sources.
  • Exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills are required. 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in a university health sciences center highly desirable, as is Capital Campaign experience.
  • Master's or PhD/EdD preferred.

Associate/Assistant Director of Individual Giving


The West Virginia University Foundation, Inc., a non-profit specifically designed to aid, further, and support the work and purposes of West Virginia University, is seeking a professional to join our fundraising team as an Associate/Assistant Director of Individual Giving. This advertisement is for one position; the title will be assigned after a review of the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.

The Foundation is engaged in a $750 million campaign for all parts of West Virginia University that will conclude in December 2015. To date, $538 million has been raised during the silent phase of A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia's University.

This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President, Development and is a member of the WVU Foundation's central development team. He or she will represent the entire range of University needs and priorities to alumni and friends in assigned geographic regions across the country. Working closely with development staff across the University's flagship campus in Morgantown, and its regional campuses, the successful candidate will build a portfolio of 130-150+ donors and prospects, and solicit outright and planned gifts of $25,000 and higher.

Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree. A minimum of three years of direct and progressively responsible experience in major gift fundraising is required for the Assistant Director position. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in higher education; with experience at a comprehensive research university; with experience or knowledge of planned giving/financial planning concepts. Strong written, verbal, organization, and interpersonal skills are required.  Successful candidates will be self-motivated and possess the ability to work as a team member within a complex organization requiring collaboration, teamwork, and communication.  The position requires frequent regional and national travel/overnight travel.

Mountaineer Line
