WVU Cancer Institute patients will benefit from the second round of the WVU Cancer Golf Classic.
The 2025 Golf Classic, held July 19 at Stonewall Resort, raised more than $75,000 for the Live Like Brent Comfort Fund and the Connection 304 Fund, generously exceeding last year’s inaugural event.
The Comfort Fund, established by the Live Like Brent Foundation, honors Brent Evans, a WVU graduate who died of blood cancer in 2017. His hope was to help blood cancer patients navigate treatment by aiding with out-of-pocket expenses.
The hosts of the “3 Guys Before the Game” podcast partnered with the WVU Foundation to establish the Connection 304 Fund to support the Cancer Institute’s greatest needs. As Golf Classic partners and event hosts, their loyal audience was quick to provide support.
“This event exemplifies the power of West Virginia connections, and we are grateful to all those organizations, businesses, and individuals who came together to support patients and foster hope,” Hannah Hazard-Jenkins, M.D., executive chair and director of the WVU Cancer Institute, Jean and Laurence DeLynn Chair of Oncology, and associate professor of surgery at the WVU School of Medicine, said.
“Special thanks to our treasured friends, ‘3 Guys,’ and to the Live Like Brent Foundation for their ongoing commitment. Their dedication is invaluable as we work to lessen the cancer burden in West Virginia and beyond through cancer prevention, treatment, and research.”
A WVU Cancer Golf Classic participant fires a golf cannon, a new attraction added for the 2025 event.
More than 100 supporters turned out to golf or participate in the sporting clays competition, a new event added this year.
The on-stage after-event hosted by Tony Caridi and Brad Howe included special guests Nate Adrian and Jasper Floyd. Adrian is a Morgantown native and former WVU basketball forward who has played around the world since his days on the court at the Coliseum. Floyd is a newly signed WVU men’s basketball player from Tampa, Florida, who most recently played as a starting guard at North Texas.
The second annual Golf Classic included specialty stations, contests, unique activations, and elite prize packages along with a visit from the Mountaineer mascot.
The event was made possible thanks to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Tri-State Roofing, Smooth Ambler, and several additional sponsors.
