B&E Receives $500K Grant from the BB&T Charitable Fund

MORGANTOWN, W. Va.— A $500,000 grant from the BB&T Charitable Fund will be used in the Center for Financial Literacy and Education at West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics and for the new business school complex to be built on Morgantown’s waterfront.

“This generous support from BB&T will be used in different ways, ranging from the creation of new academic programs to helping us lead the way in incorporating financial literacy in West Virginia through the Center for Financial Literacy and Education,” said Javier Reyes, B&E Milan Puskar Dean. “Part of this grant will also be used for our new business school complex, which will represent the physical component of an overall business education transformation at WVU. The academic and experiential transformation is well on its way, thanks in part to the generosity of BB&T. These are exciting times for the College, but this is only the beginning.”

WVU Foundation honors endowed scholarship, fellowship donors

The West Virginia University Foundation is acknowledging those alumni and friends of WVU who have created endowed scholarships, fellowships and student awards in calendar year 2017.

Eighty-three donors are being honored by having bricks engraved with their name placed in the Ernest L. Hogan Scholars Walk, the pathway located at the downtown campus library.

New scholarship awarded to incoming WVU student

An incoming freshman who found his career path while taking care of his grandfather is the first recipient of the Jim and Gerry Cox Endowed Academic Scholarship.

Bradley Bordelon, who moved to West Virginia from Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina and a recent Nicholas County High School graduate, is a direct admit in West Virginia University’s nursing program; he plans to minor in Spanish

WVU celebrates West Virginia’s 155th birthday with latest gift from the Blenko family

A new limited-edition piece from Blenko Glass will be added to West Virginia University’s art collection.

The company is continuing its tradition of providing WVU with the latest piece from the collection. The donation has become an annual occurrence on June 20 – the state’s birthday. Started by the company in 1980, the West Virginia Birthday Blenko Glass Collection celebrates the state’s birthday with just the exact number of pieces as the state’s age made and sold each year.

WVU’s Head Basketball Coach Bob Huggins Visits Hilton Head Island

The future Hall of Fame coach was relaxed as he told some stories and answered questions about the program from the more than 120 fans in attendance. He was introduced by long-time friend and former South Carolina Coach Bobby Cremins.
At the end of the reception, Chapter President Eric Magnin had an important announcement. 

“When we learned Coach Huggins was coming to the Island, we wanted this reception to be more than just a social event. We wanted it to be meaningful and relevant. So, our Chapter members raised close to $19,000 for a charity Bob set up to honor his mom, Norma Mae, who meant the world to him and who passed away several years ago from colon cancer.”

Fund created to support cancer care enhancement, honor Betty Puskar

A fund has been created to support the enhancement of the West Virginia University Cancer Institute and other cancer clinics in the WVU Hospital System.

Recognized as the Betty Puskar Cancer Care and Support Fund, the fund not only supports clinic and patient experience enhancement, but honors Betty Puskar, a two-time cancer survivor and someone who is described as a “voice for breast cancer.”

Troy Todd Foundation makes $10k donation to Rosenbaum Family House

The Troy Todd Foundation of the Franklin County Foundation has made a $10,000 gift to the Rosenbaum Family House at West Virginia University.

The gift was made in conjunction with the Grateful Patients, Families and Friends program as a result of the positive impact left on the donor’s family during leukemia treatment at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Training ‘ninja’ analysts

Karen and Mike Carver, West Virginia University sociology and anthropology alumni and owners of Ninja Analytics, gave $25,000 to the Department of Sociology and Anthropology to support student research.

“We are excited about the energetic new leadership in Department and the College and the Department’s new Ph.D. program,” Karen Carver said. “We hope that this gift will support the Department’s goals and allow students to pursue better data and more rigorous methods to understand the research questions they are examining.”

Mylan and West Virginia University join forces to inspire West Virginia youth through STEM-CARE

Global pharmaceutical company Mylan N.V. (NASDAQ: MYL) and West Virginia University (WVU) today announced a 10-year collaboration, supported by a $5 million charitable contribution from Mylan, to develop and implement a program that will expose children across West Virginia to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and challenge traditional thinking about how STEM skills can be applied.
