Newly established Mountaineer Medical Scholarship to partially fund medical education

A $20,000 scholarship has been established to support a medical student at the West Virginia University School of Medicine.

The Dr. and Mrs. Phillip Mathias Mountaineer Medical Scholar has been established by Phillip Mathias, MD, and his wife, Dolores, to support a student throughout his or her time with the School of Medicine.

WVU alumnus establishes the Dr. Rustin M. Moore Veterinary Medical Educational Fund

Inspired by the exceptional undergraduate education he received at West Virginia University, alumnus Rustin Moore has established a scholarship fund that will help graduates of the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design transition to the next level of their academic careers.

Moore recently committed $25,000 to establish the Dr. Rustin M. Moore Veterinary Medical Education Fund to support pre-vet students who are West Virginia residents and have been accepted into the veterinary program at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

WVU Reed College of Media receives $250,000 AEP Foundation Grant to Expand Community Branding Initiative

West Virginia University Reed College of Media students will work with local communities to tell and “sell” their stories thanks to a grant from the American Electric Power Foundation.

The $250,000 grant supports WVU’s Community Branding Initiative, BrandJRNY. Students enrolled in specialized upper-level strategic communications courses will develop integrated communications campaigns for selected West Virginia communities within AEP’s Appalachian Power service area. Students will hone skills in campaign research, strategy, community engagement, budgeting, innovative storytelling and creating promotional materials, while they discover and decide how best to brand each community.

WVU benefactor Benedum Foundation receives Fundraising Professionals award

The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation has been named the 2017 Outstanding Foundation and Philanthropic Organization by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Nominated by the West Virginia University Foundation, the Benedum Foundation has shown outstanding support and great commitment to the state of West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania.

Donors contribute $100K to WVU Foundation’s 2017 Pride Travel Fund

More than 800 donors contributed over $100,000 to the West Virginia University’s Pride Travel Fund this fall in support of the Mountaineer Marching Band.

The annual campaign was established to help defray the costs of travel for the band, including transportation, hotels and food for the more than 350 members and staff.

WVU Foundation wins top digital award from Acquia

The West Virginia University Foundation’s efforts to overhaul its online donation web pages have earned it a top national honor. 

Boston-based Acquia, a leading cloud platform for building, delivering and optimizing digital experiences, named the WVU Foundation one of its 2017 Engage Award recipients.  The web page redesign project, led by Foundation Senior Application Developer AJ Blosser, focused on improving the search and transactional experience for the donor.

‘Most Loyals’ chosen for Mountaineer Week at WVU

A doctor known for his leadership and service, a successful entrepreneur, a highly-respected retired plant pathology professor and a dedicated administrative assistant are being honored as Most Loyals during the 70th annual Mountaineer Week, a celebration of Appalachian Heritage, Oct. 20-29, on West Virginia University’s campus.

The 2017 honorees are Dr. Ronald Wilkinson, Most Loyal West Virginian; Jon Hammock, Most Loyal Alumni Mountaineer; Mannon Gallegly, Most Loyal Faculty/Professional Staff Mountaineer; and Barbara Bodkins, Most Loyal Classified Staff Mountaineer. The group will be honored during halftime ceremonies of Saturday’s (Oct. 28) WVU-Oklahoma State football game.
