Grants awarded through Women of WVU Enrichment Fund

WVU Foundation

A West Virginia University student-led project and two University programs will benefit from the latest round of grants made through an enrichment fund established by Women of WVU.

The group was established by the WVU Foundation in 2014 to provide women who love the University additional ways to become involved through educational enrichment activities, networking opportunities and private philanthropy.

Marla Gladstone, of Morgantown, is a first-year doctoral student in Coaching and Teaching Studies through the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences. She plans to use the one-year $2,500 grant to bring a nationally known anti-racism workshop for women to campus.

Two WVU programs are being awarded $5,000 grants each of the next three years. The University chapter of the Society of Women Engineers will use the funds to offset the cost of supplies for outreach and advocacy events. The WVU Libraries will receive funding for an Inclusive Portrait Project. In partnership with the West Virginia & Regional History Center, the project will commission three portraits of notable women to WVU/West Virginia. The paintings, to be done by a current WVU fine arts student or recent graduate, will be displayed in the Downtown Campus Library.

The Women of WVU Enrichment Fund was created by the group’s leadership council which serves as a giving circle to provide support funding for female students and programs benefiting women at WVU, especially those that have a direct impact on West Virginia.  One-year student project grants up to $2,500 and one-to-three-year program grants up to $5,000 are available each year in a competitive application process. Funding is not available for tuition, books or fees, or international travel.
