The Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon has awarded the WVU School of Nursing a $12,800 grant to help build nurse-led access to care points within West Virginia faith community settings.
“The Pallottine Foundation of Huntington has provided support for Faith Community Nursing initiatives here in WV for several years,” said Dr. Angel Smothers, Associate Dean for Community Engagement. “Without their support we would not have made the progress we have.”
Pallottine Foundation works toward the advancement of transformative initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles for communities in Buckhannon, West Virginia, and surrounding areas.
“Faith Community Nurses provide a bridge to health for community members in rural areas who have limited access to providers, transportation, screenings, and health education,” said Laura Boone, Executive Director of the Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon. “We partnered with WVU’s School of Nursing two years ago to introduce the program in Barbour and Randolph counties, and we are excited to help provide the same opportunity to Webster County residents this year.”
Faith Community Nursing is an initiative led by the WVU School of Nursing to bring nurse-led access to care to the most rural reaches of West Virginia. The Foundations of Faith Community Nursing course teaches participants how to improve health in faith communities, as well as to provide quality care to members of different faith backgrounds in the clinical care setting.
Donations supporting the work of Faith Community Nurses are awarded via the WVU Foundation, the nonprofit organization that receives and administers private donations on behalf of the University.
